for a Fair Chance
Americans
for a Fair Chance, a nonpartisan consortium of six of the nation's most
prominent civil rights legal groups, was formed to educate the public
on the benefits of affirmative action for women, minorities and the nation.
This historic and diverse consortium is comprised of: Lawyers' Committee
for Civil Rights Under Law, Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational
Fund, National Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium, NAACP Legal Defense
and Educational Fund, Inc., National Women's Law Center and National Partnership
for Women and Families.

Human Rights Commission (AHRC)
The Asian
Human Rights Commission (AHRC), founded in 1986, is an independent, non-governmental
body which seeks to promote greater awareness and realisation of human
rights in the Asian region, and to mobilise Asian and international public
opinion to obtain relief and redress for the victims of human rights violations.
AHRC promotes civil and political rights, as well as economic, social
and cultural rights.

Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
Active in
the preservation of civil rights for all, the ACLU has been on the forefront
of the struggle for civil rights since 1920 The American Civil Liberties
Union is the nation's foremost advocate of individual rights - litigating,
legislating, and educating the public on a broad array of issues affecting
individual freedom in the United States. The mission of the ACLU is to
assure that the Bill of Rights - amendments to the Constitution that guard
against unwarranted governmental control - are preserved for each new
generation. Their sites contains a comprehensive history of the struggles
for human and civil rights.

Jewish Committee
Devoted to
Jews in the US and around the world, the American Jewish Committee's site
contains information on Jewish history, holidays, and contemporary Jewish
life.
Anti-Defamation
League
Fighting
anti-Semitism and bigotry here and abroad, the ADL probes the roots of
hatred against Jews and serves as a public resource for government, media,
law enforcement agencies and the public at large. Includes information
on the Holocaust, neo-Nazi groups, and Middle East news, plus a section
on what you can do to combat anti-sematism and racist extremists.

Conference on Civil Rights
(LCCR)
The LCCR
was founded in 1950 by the generation of giants who led the peaceful revolution
for civil and human rights. Beginning with 30 organizations, mostly civil
rights and labor groups, the Leadership Conference has grown to more than
185 national organizations, representing persons of color, women, children,
labor unions, individuals with disabilities, older Americans, major religious
groups, gays and lesbians and civil liberties and human rights groups.
Over 50 million Americans belong to the organizations that comprise the
Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. Contains links to hundreds of civil
rights organizations. Put this one at the top of your list.

Conference Education Fund (LCEF)
The Leadership
Conference Education Fund (LCEF) is an independent, non-profit, tax-exempt
research organization established to support educational activities relevant
to civil rights. LCEF's mission is to strengthen the nation's commitment
to civil rights and equality of opportunity for all. LCEF closely monitors
the Federal Government's enforcement of civil rights, Supreme Court decisions
and legislative initiatives related to civil rights, and issues reports
for broad dissemination on the effectiveness of civil rights legislation
as enforced by the courts and executive agencies.
Media
Action Network for Asian Americans (MANAA)
MANAA is
dedicated to creating an environment free of racism through accurate,
balanced, and sensitive Asian American images. They monitor all facets
of the media for Asian American portrayals and subject matter; and contact
those responsible that are worthy of praise or criticism. MANAA holds
an annual Media Achievement Awards Banquet to highlight and honor the
achievements of individuals in the entertainment and media industry for
their efforts in presenting a balanced and sensitive image of Asian Americans
in the media. A member of the Media Image Coalition of Women and Minorities.
Mexican
American Legal Defense and Educational Fund
(MALDEF)
MALDEF is
a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect and promote
the civil rights of the more than 29 million Latinos living in the United
States.
National
Asian American Telecommunications Association (NAATA)
Celebrating
its 20th anniversary this year, NAATA is dedicated to securing funding
from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in order to place Asian American
programming on public television. Now involved in working with civil rights
and advocacy groups to make Hollywood open up its doors to the new generation
of Asian American writers, directors and producers.
National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
The NAACP,
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is the oldest
and largest civil rights organization in the United States. The principal
objective of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social
and economic equality of minority group citizens of the United States.
Their web site contains information on programs currently underway by
the NAACP, information on programs and legislation currently being conducted
by the organization, and links to other African American sites.
National
Congress of American Indians (NCAI)
The NCAI
is the oldest, largest and most representative national Indian organization
serving the needs of a broad membership of American Indian and Alaska
Native governments. Dedicated to the unification of all tribes for political
action and the well-being of all tribes. Contains a directory of tribes
in North America, a calendar of Native American events, and information
on issues of interest to all Native Americans.NCAI stresses the need for
unity and cooperation among tribal governments for the protection of their
treaty and sovereign rights.
The
National Council of La Raza (NCLR)
NCLR is a
private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, tax-exempt organization established in
1968 to reduce poverty and discrimination, and improve life opportunities
for Hispanic Americans. Contains press releases, links, and issues of
interest to Hispanic Americans.

for Chinese Americans (OCA)
An extensive
web site devoted to Asian American issues of all kinds. Includes a list
of press releases and media coverage of Chinese American issues, issues
and programs of interest to members and non-members alike, grants and
jobs available, a list of Action Alerts sent out to members, news of the
Chinese Americans Veterans of WW II Project, and an extensive list of
related links.
