Portland JACL Mission Statement

The Japanese American Citizens League is a membership-driven national organization whose mission is to secure and uphold the human and civil rights of Americans of Japanese ancestry and others and to promote and preserve the cultural heritage and values of Japanese Americans. The purpose of the JACL is to:

1.	Protect the rights of Japanese Americans as its primary and continuing concern. It shall also strive to secure and uphold civil and human rights for all people.
2.	Preserve the culture and values of Japanese Americans in a multicultural society.
3.	Participate in the development of understanding between all social and ethnic groups.
4.	Promote, sponsor, and encourage programs, projects, and activities designed to further encourage members to perform faithfully their duties and obligations to the United States of America. The organization and its members shall uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States.
