Clark Center Loaves & Fishes Grand Opening

Chefs (left to right) Juvenal Molina, Sasha Kaplan, and Kashu Hamada prepared the food for the Clark Center Opening.

The Clark Center had its grand opening on Wednesday, January 26th with over 150 people in attendance.

The Loaves & Fishes concept is to have the central kitchen cook most of the meals and ship them out to all of their 32 locations in the greater metropolitan area.

The Clark Center’s goal is provide in-house Asian cooking using the freshest ingredients. To reach this goal a new chef was hired and her name is Sasha Kaplan. Sasha will cook Asian entrees on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning March 2, 2011.

At the age of eleven, Sasha made the family Thanksgiving dinner while her mother was in the hospital and she has been cooking ever since. She was educated in New Haven, Connecticut and moved to Portland in 1978 and started the Applehood and Motherpie, her first catering business.

Sasha’s claim to fame is while working at the Genoa Restaurant, she met Julia Child. Her “Ah ha!” moment came and she realized that children need to learn how to cook. Sasha has taught cooking classes to Girl Scouts just as she had learned in the early 1960′s. She cooks a variety of dishes from around the world so please stop by on Wednesdays and Thursdays to partake her Asian entrees.
